MISSION
Compass is on a mission to restore forests while capturing carbon and creating biocarbon to replace fossil carbon while improving the economic viability of our partners, the shared livelihood of communities, and ecologic health of our planet.
VISION
Compass will guide society in a transition from relying on fossilized hydro carbons to renewable biocarbons. Anytime a company wants to make this transition they will give us a call and our partners will meet 100% of their renewable energy goals. We will make the Biocarbon Industry a standard partner in the forest industry and make our partners more ecologically and economically viable.

PROBLEM: FORESTS ARE DYING
U.S. forests are in crisis: 21% of trees are dead or dying (18 billion metric tons of biomass), with some states reaching 40% mortality rates. Without intervention, 25% of live forest biomass will die from insects and disease, putting nearly 100% of forests at risk by 2027. Currently, 41.1% of total live forest biomass is already at risk. The situation is rapidly deteriorating. Insect and disease damage affected 9.8 million acres in 2024, a 70% increase from 5.8 million acres in 2021 (USDA). This dead wood fuels catastrophic wildfires, contributing to 1000% increases in forest fires across some U.S. regions and creating even more deadwood.
NEW PARTNERS NEEDED
Dead and dying trees must be removed to prevent disease and reduce fire risk. However, pulp and paper mills, historically the primary buyers of this biomass, have declined 30% since 2000, with another 30% at high risk of closure (ResourceWise). Sustainable forest management requires systematic thinning. Dense forests contain 40-60% thin trees (6-inch diameter or smaller), while young forests contain 60-80% thin trees. Without supporting industry for forest thinning and restoration, forests cannot be ecologically or economically managed.
ECOLOGICAL IMPACT
Current inventories of dead, dying, and burning forests will release 36 billion metric tons of CO₂ , more than seven times the United States' annual emissions of 5 billion metric tons. Proactively managed forests are 88% less susceptible to high severity wildfire than their unmanaged counterparts and can recover carbon stocks in only 7 years (USFS)
